Methods Engineer / CNC Programming Specialist

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Methods & CNC Programming Engineer with 4 to 10 years of expertise in precision machining environments.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for process planning (methods engineering) and generating robust, optimized NC codes for multi-axis CNC Milling and Turning machines. You will leverage your strong software proficiency in SolidCAM, Mastercam, and Unigraphics NX (Siemens NX) to translate engineering drawings into efficient shop-floor production routines while minimizing cycle times and tool wear.

Key Responsibilities

• Process Planning & Methods Optimization:
  • Define manufacturing methods, process sequences, and routing sheets for complex mechanical components from engineering drawings.
  • Optimize machining processes for both CNC Milling and CNC Turning operations to enhance productivity and reduce production costs.
• CAM Programming & Simulation:
  • Generate, verify, and post-process advanced NC programs using SolidCAM, Mastercam, and Unigraphics NX.
  • Perform virtual machining simulations to check for collisions, gouging, and path efficiency before releasing programs to the shop floor.
• Tooling & Fixture Selection:
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, and inserts based on material properties and machining parameters (speeds and feeds).
  • Design or collaborate on modular/special-purpose fixture designs to ensure clamping stability and precision.
• Shop-Floor Troubleshooting & Support:
  • Provide hands-on technical support to CNC operators during setup, trial runs, and First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Troubleshoot machining errors, resolve tool breakage issues, and continuously improve cycle times.
• Documentation & Compliance:
  • Maintain up-to-date setup sheets, tool lists, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all programmed components.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety protocols.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering / Manufacturing Technology.
• Experience: 4 to 10 years of core hands-on experience in Methods Engineering, CNC Programming, and Machining Operations in a precision manufacturing setup.
• Software Proficiency:
  • Mandatory expertise in either SolidCAM, Mastercam, and Unigraphics NX (Siemens NX) CAM modules.
  • Sound knowledge of CAD software for 3D model manipulation and drawing interpretation.
• Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong mastery of CNC Milling (3-axis / 4-axis / 5-axis) and CNC Turning (2-axis / multi-axis) technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), metallurgical properties, and cutting tool behavior.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving capability, and the ability to work cross-functionally with production and quality teams.
